The Top 6 Apps in the Transportation Industry All Truckers Should be Using!

Updated: Mar 16, 2020

How many people do you know that don’t own a smartphone? Probably not many. Are you surprised? Probably not. Moral of the story, almost everyone owns a smartphone, and Truckers are no different. New apps are being made every day to make daily life so much more convenient (and cheaper) – especially for truckers on the road! We want to make your life even easier, so we’ve come up with the top 6 apps that truck drivers use, or should be using

1. Co-Pilot Truck Navigation

Co-Pilot helps guide truckers through reliable and safe routes with its voice-activated GPS based on vehicle profile, load type, and weight. The app downloads high-quality maps with regular updates to your phone so that you are able to use them while you are offline. With Co-Pilot Truck Navigation, drivers can create custom routes to avoid extra mileage and can avoid low-clearance and weight-restricted roads.

2. Dock411

This app hosts detailed information about stops across North America. Dock411 knows drivers get annoyed when they get to a pick up location and don’t know where to go or what to look for. This app gives drivers the ability to look up directions, wait times and limits, procedures for load and unloading, restroom availability, and parking situations. It also provides feedback from other drivers of their dock experiences so you know what exactly what to expect.

3. Audio Books

Yep, you guessed right! This app lets you listen to audio recorded books to kill the boredom on your long hauls. Audio Books has over 100,000 book titles available to listen to while driving to keep the driver focused on the road. Not only does this app help pass your time on the road faster, but it allows you to escape to another world, making your overall journey a pleasant one.

4. Allstays

Having difficulty finding a truck stop on your route? Allstays helps drivers find those rest stops that they are looking for. Drivers can let the app know what service or type of stop they want and Allstays shows them the best match with the closest location. The app can sort stops by those with restaurants, showers, game rooms, laundry and so much more.

5. Hotels4Truckers

Hotels4Truckers is a feature on the MyDAT Trucker app. MyDAT is one of the most popular trucking apps that helps you find fuel locations, truck stops, rest stops, truck washes, Walmarts and available loads. The Hotels4Truckers feature on this app helps you find hotels by searching a specific location or ones near you through your GPS. What’s more? Most of the hotel listings offer a 15-20% discount!

6. Apps for Fuel Cards

Fuel cards are extremely helpful for truckers on the road by providing them with security while hauling loads. Two great apps that all truckers should be using are EFS CardControl and Comdata Fleet Advance. Both of these fuel card apps help you find the lowest fuel prices for your fleets. The Comdata Fleet Advance app allows you to manage your balance directly from your phone and transfer available funds as needed. Likewise, the EFS CardControl app also lets you check your balance from your phone. You can register checks, check your transaction history, and manage your funds. We work with both these fuel card companies at Porter because we want the best for our clients. We are able to put the money from your loads directly onto your fuel card. Using these apps, you’ll have the ability to track your fuel balance from the road so you’ll never be low on funds for fuel again.

So whether you’re looking for your drop location or just a place to crash for the night, keep these apps on your phone for an easy journey. If you get tight on cash or get stuck looking for a load, give Porter a call and we’ll see if factoring, fuel cards or dispatching might be a good fit for your company.
